About Us
We make clean water accessible. Blaues Herz e.V. was founded in 2021 by students at EBS and is run entirely by volunteers to this day. Together with local partners, we build structures in the areas of water, hygiene and education, currently in sub-Saharan Africa.
Why we do this
Water is the foundation of health, education and development. Where it is missing, everything else is missing too. Every day, around 1,000 children under the age of five die worldwide from the consequences of unsafe water and poor hygiene. That is exactly where we start.
How we work
We do not see projects as short-term aid, but as long-term cooperation. It is not just about installing a facility, but about knowledge, responsibility and structures that can be carried on locally.
That includes transparency. We want to know exactly whom we support and where, and be able to show it. Every project is developed together with partners on the ground who know the situation better than we do.
Our story
The association was founded in 2021 at EBS out of the idea of making a concrete contribution. Nils, Matthias and Tim had been studying drinking water supply in Africa intensively during their degrees. The first project was carried out in cooperation with Street Child.
In July 2025, Flavian Schmidt and Anthony Kluth took over the board, with the aim of focusing the association more strongly on its own projects, long-term partnerships and practical implementation. This is also how the partnership with the EBS Educare initiative came about.
Through a growing network and the water project in Uganda, cross-border partnerships have emerged that allow us to support projects over the long term and together with local partners.

Blaues Herz e.V. is registered with the Fulda district court under VR 2947. The association is based in Hünfeld. Everyone involved works on a voluntary basis.
